Jim Vigmond, Hockey Fan, Pays $5,300 For Toilet From Maple Leaf Gardens Locker Room

Jim Vigmond, a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, reportedly paid $5,300 for a team toilet from the old Maple Leaf Gardens, ESPN reports.

The arena housed the NHL team from 1931 to 1999, and the toilet occupied one of the stalls in the home team's locker room.

"I just thought ... what a rare piece and just think of all of the people that have spent time contemplating in that dressing room what lies ahead of them," Vigmond told the Toronto Star.

The Ontario lawyer said he would like to use the porcelain throne for his own reflective moments -- with a glass of scotch and cigar in his memorabilia room.

Vigmond also wanted to buy the Maple Leafs' 1967 Stanley Cup banner, but the bidding got too steep, the Star reports. He said he was ready to pay as much as $10,000 for the players' potty.

The porcelain relic might be a prime conversation piece, but unfortunately, it doesn't come with the return of hockey; the NHL lockout remains in effect as bargaining sessions continue. ESPN cracked that if the labor-shackled NHL flushes its season, Vigmond will be ready.

The Maple Leaf Gardens toilet, however, is no match for J.D. Salinger's commode. The toilet belonging to the notoriously private "Catcher in the Rye" author appeared on eBay in 2010 with an asking price of $1 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.
